BC Farmers: Extreme Weather Funding Opens October 8
Get support to protect your operation from wildfire, flood, heat, and cold. There’s up to $50,000 available for BC farm & ranch projects.
The Beneficial Management Practices (BMP) Program has launched a new funding stream focused on Extreme Weather Preparedness (EWP), designed to help farm and ranch operations across British Columbia strengthen their resilience against increasingly unpredictable weather events.

Starting October 8, 2025, producers can apply for cost-share funding to support projects that mitigate the impacts of wildfire, flooding, extreme heat, and cold on their operations.
What’s Covered Under EWP?
The EWP category supports projects in four key areas:
- Wildfire Preparedness
Examples: FireSmart™ retrofits, vegetation management - Flood Preparedness
Examples: Fill pads for farm buildings, flood-resilient feed storage - Extreme Heat & Cold Preparedness
Examples: Shade infrastructure for livestock, cooling systems for aquaculture - Creative Solutions
Innovative ideas tailored to your farm’s unique needs
Funding Details
Eligible applicants may receive:
- Up to 100% for assessments and designs
- Up to 40% for infrastructure and equipment
Maximum funding:

- Between $2,000 to $15,000 for planning/design
- Up to $50,000 per farm for eligible infrastructure projects
No Environmental Farm Plan (EFP) is required for EWP applications in the 2025/26 program year.
Who Can Apply?
To qualify, applicants must:
- Be a primary agriculture producer in B.C.
- Hold farm status and a valid business number
- Be a taxable entity (e.g., sole proprietor, corporation, cooperative, or First Nation Band)
- Have a main farmstead in British Columbia and file farm income tax
Important Dates
- Applications Open: October 1, 2025
- Submissions Accepted: Starting October 8 at 9:00 AM
- Project Completion Deadline: January 30, 2026
(Projects completed after this date will be reimbursed starting April 1, 2026)
