Joint federal provincial initiative geared to a shifting economy

Jon Jon|Apr 12, 2024

As Ontario’s workforce continues to adjust to the changes brought by newer technologies, the effects of globalization and demographic shifts, Elite Agri Solutions is offering help with applications for the Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) program. The availability of jobs and the skill sets required for success on the farm are being affected by advances in technology, with expanding horizons generated by changes in consumer preferences or innovative on-farm practices. This is why investing in education and training is fundamental to developing and maintaining a competitive advantage, particularly in the province’s agri-food and agri-business sectors.

The Canada-Ontario Job Grant program, available with the assistance of the professionals at Elite Agri Solutions, provides opportunities for employers to invest in their workforce. It is an important training avenue for farm businesses, especially now with more producers and operators seeking to enhance their on-farm employment offerings.

Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, with all necessary and appropriate forms and documents available at https://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/eng/eopg/cojg/. A particularly useful resource is the Questions and Answers for Employers form (https://www.tcu.gov.on.ca/eng/eopg/cojg/cojg-qs-as.html), which can provide detailed information on the program, prior to consulting with Elite Agri Solutions.

Other forms contained on the site include a COJG Employer and Training Provider information sheet, a Training Provider Attestation Form, an Employer Attestation Form and an Employer Overview Presentation.

Additional specifications under the Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG) program include:

  • Employers are eligible for up to $10,000 in government support per person to help with training costs
  • training must be delivered by an eligible, third-party trainer
  • most organizations acting as an intermediary are eligible for administrative funding equal to 15 per cent of the government contribution.

Currently, the Ministry of Colleges and Universities is only accepting training applications for 25 or fewer participants.
