RDAR’s OFCAF Program Reopens: $10 Million in Funding for Alberta Farmers
Applications are open again for RDAR’s On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF), giving Alberta producers access to up to $75,000 in funding per farm, but with only $10 million remaining, early applications are key.

It’s official, RDAR’s On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF) applications are open again as of August 1, 2025. With $10 million in funding still available, this program provides farmers with direct support to implement practices that improve soil health, reduce emissions, and strengthen resilience on the farm.
Eligible farms can access up to $75,000 each, making OFCAF one of the most significant funding opportunities currently available for Alberta agriculture.
Supporting Beneficial Management Practices
OFCAF is designed to remove barriers to the broader adoption of beneficial management practices (BMPs). Funding is available for three key areas that bring long-term environmental and economic benefits:
- Cover Cropping: Support is available for fall or spring planting of cover crops (including intercropping) and full-season annual cover crops. Species such as clover protect soil from erosion, enrich it with organic matter, improve water retention, and enhance nutrient cycling.
- Nitrogen Management: Funding helps farmers optimize nitrogen use, such as by incorporating legumes into crop rotations or using manure and other alternative fertilizers. Smarter nitrogen management reduces greenhouse gas emissions, improves water quality, and supports soil fertility.
- Rotational Grazing: OFCAF covers infrastructure and strategies that make rotational grazing possible, including fencing, water systems, and low-methane pasture approaches. These practices help regenerate pastures, strengthen root systems, and promote biodiversity.
Key Program Updates for 2025
✔ Soil Sampling and Mapping : Lifetime funding maximum of $20,000 (2022–2028).
✔ Rotational Grazing – Water Distribution: New cap of $37,500 (2025–2028).
✔ Funding Availability: Approximately $10 million remains for 2025.
